Dear God Help Me, or Affirmations on the Run
How many times have you said this to yourself? “Dear God help me.” Thousands I am sure.
I know that we are not all believers in God, but our culture is such that we have developed a faith that something outside of ourselves exists that we can call on in times of need.
For most of us these times of need are when critical things happen, a serious illness or loss of job, or a child that is sick. When any number of negative things happen to us it is generally when we turn to prayer.
The new method of prayer today is affirmations; they have become a catch phrase. The difference is that affirmations are something that you say to yourself.
Affirmations can get lost in your belief systems. They are created from what you know is possible through the emotional content of your beliefs.
If you have an inner belief that the situation or thing that you desire is not possible, that you have to do something to make it happen, and you take no action, then the affirmation will not work.
Prayer on the other hand is more appealing as it is said to some thing or person outside of you. Prayer is about asking for help from a higher source, a god, a being or a mighty force. So the actual belief is full of hope and faith and trust.
Affirmations can be useful to psyche yourself into something which you are not totally confident about. I use affirmations to boost my confidence. Good positive self talk. A good affirmation works wonders.
I use prayer when I want the BIG results to happen, and usually with a time frame or outcome that is bigger than I know HOW to create.
For me prayer is really the cornerstone of getting where you want to go. When you pray for something you put all your emotional energy into the asking. There is more focus as you have pure intention. Not only do you really desire the outcome you also want the experience that goes with it.
From the action of prayer we are also able to let go and allow something that we perceive that is outside of us that is greater than us take over so we let go and let god this is when we actually action the prayer. We let go. Accepting the outcome that is best for all concerned.
I believe there is a place for prayer in today’s world – it is alive in us all.
I would like to make a suggestion. I would like to create a prayer that has a mighty force with it.
I found this directional prayer in The Edinburgh Lectures, by Thomas Troward.
“This is what I want you to do; you will now step into my place and do it, bringing all your powers and intelligence to bear, and considering yourself to be none other than myself.”
Repeat the above several times and then work through your day with confidence that all is about unfold as you desire.
The prayer has to be said with meaning, with emotional delight in a calm and peaceful manner.
It is directional, specific and real time NOW.
