7 steps to managing tasks not time
There is no such thing as time management. You cannot manage time, you can only manage tasks. I once worked for a time management company, it was one of the best things I ever did. Here are my one-minute management tips.
Creating great habits makes you feel in control.
Procrastination is a drain on your life. I am sure you will agree.
This is the best way to avoid the habit of putting things off until another day.
Every night before you go to sleep write out a list of all the things you are going to do the next day.
Then once you have written the list number the items in order of importance.
There should be only 6 tasks on the list.
The top of the list, number one is the very task you do not want to do. This is the key that unlocks the day.
Always do the worst task first.
DO NOT answer any emails or phone calls until the first task is complete.
If you have to get up an hour earlier to complete the dreaded task, then MAKE your self do just that. Get up earlier.
Once the worst task is complete you will find the rest of the day is a joy.
I do this every night before I go to bed. It makes the day flow so sweetly and you will accomplish the rest of the list like a pro.
You will find that some of the items on your list will happen before you get to them.
This creates a proactive life style and you will be able to do far more in one week than you have done in a month the old way.
The great advantage is you have a record of all that you have accomplished.
Repeat the exercise each night and create a new habit.
I thank the time management company for giving me the job 30 years ago. I now do this every day.
